Crab Council Named in GreenBiz Article

GreenBiz, an online publication that writes on the intersection of business, technology and sustainability, featured the NFI Crab Council in an article showcasing initiatives undertaken between seafood companies. In the article, writer Ned Daly of SeaWeb details examples of industry collaboration within the seafood community. Terming such collaboration as “pre-competitive” strategies, Daly states these strategies are being used to preserve resources for mutual business benefit.

Along with SeaPact, Sustainable Seafood Coalition, the NFI Crab Council is named as an industry-led sustainability effort. On the origins and mission of the Crab Council, NFI President John Connelly says, “The industry got together and said, we need to look at how we can help folks in Southeast Asia run a better fishery and a more sustainable fishery. But we also have a responsibility on our end, as the importers and processors and marketing companies, to actually fund some of that work, and the only way you can do that is collaboratively.”
